eyes

eyes

friends and enemies
telling me little
everything,
and too much
witness tragedy and joy
a book for my mind to criticize
and hold in esteem
like and bibles at church alters
the ones who know all
and who are acknowledged the least
until they are damaged
and our visual connection to the universe
becomes obsolete

dry with the sun
and water with the rain
define the earth
and our spirit simultaneously
fall like sheets
over our souls
and protects us
the way god does the earth
with night
they remove us from right now
and provide day dream slide shows
of paradise
when screaming is not an option

speak
when words are lost
or lacking
hear
when silence is the only option
center and dim
when there is no life left

jump
throb
roll
laugh for happy souls
pout for sad souls
cry for lost souls
understand for unforgiving souls

eyes

give reality to the unsure
they show us how far we have traveled
to stand in the moment
when we finally see ourselves
